History
In 1988, a group of dedicated criminal defense attorneys came together to form the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (KACDL). Recognizing the need for a unified voice to advocate for the defense community and uphold justice, they laid the foundation for what is now the state’s largest bar association dedicated to criminal defense.
From the beginning, KACDL has worked to support attorneys through education, collaboration, and legislative advocacy. Our continuing legal education programs, active listserv, and Strike Force initiative provide critical resources to defense attorneys facing legal challenges. We also play a vital role in legislative discussions, ensuring that the rights of the accused and those who defend them remain protected.
Membership has grown to include attorneys, judges, investigators, and paralegals—anyone committed to the defense of constitutional rights. Today, with nearly 300 members across Kansas, KACDL remains a powerful force for justice, standing with defense attorneys and the clients they serve.
